Director of Operations
Gary Belden brings many years of on ice experience to Darien Ice House (DIH). He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Lake Forest College and was on the Lake Forest JV hockey team, which in turn became a gateway to his amateur hockey career. Throughout his four years in college, he worked at the ice rink, where he became the student manager his senior year. His love for hockey progressed as his career developed into amateur hockey, as he played for the Chicago Minor Hawk organization. He eventually traded in his skates and took on his first official rink job as the on-ice crew for the Chicago Blackhawks games.
After college, Gary worked at Terry Conners Rink where he organized (and played in) weekly pick-up spring/summer leagues. He has coached the Stamford Sharks, Rye Rangers, and Greenwich Skating Club. He also worked three seasons at the New Canaan Winter Club and five years at Chelsea Piers CT before moving to Darien Ice House. Along with managing all ice operations at the rink, he is responsible for scheduling, staffing and programming intramurals and town recreation leagues for DIH.
