The Darien Ice House Skating School offers a variety of classes for all levels of skating ability. Whether you are an early beginner, recreational, intermediate or advanced, our goal is to provide a safe, fun, and challenging environment designed to improve skills. All of our instructors have been teaching skating for years and some are former Olympians. Our instruction conforms to the U.S. Figure Skating, “Learn to Skate USA” guidelines. All students must be registered with U.S. Figure Skating for eligibility. Upon registration, each student will receive a Welcome Pack that includes a Skater Record Book, a membership card, and a Learn to Skate USA magazine. They will also receive a U.S. Figure Skating Certificate for each level achieved.
Snowplow Sam (SS) Levels 1-4:
SS 1 is for the child that has not skated before.
SS 2 & 3 is for the child who has some skating experience with good forward movement.
SS 4 is for the skater who has forward movement.
The minimum age requirement is 3 years old. One parent will be allowed to skate with their child in the practice area after class.
Basic Skills Levels 1-6:
Basic Skills will work with everyone from the total beginner to the skater with some experience to the skater just beginning low-level jumps and spins.
Free Skate Levels 1-6:
Pre-Free Skate is available to skaters that have passed Basic Skills 6 and wish to continue skating at a higher level. The Free Skate Program offers advanced classes comprised of a variety of skating skills, jumps and spins.
This class is for adults who would like to learn to skate, improve their skills or just enjoy family skating fun!
Beginner Hockey is available to skaters with minimum to moderate skating ability. Skaters will work on shooting, passing; stick handling, skating skills & drills.
Intro, Advanced & Power Hockey – Boys/Girls
Intro Hockey is for skaters who have completed Basic Skills Level 1. This program aims to introduce skating skills and hockey fundamentals that are necessary to play. Players will ultimately progress to Advanced & Power Hockey upon mastering their intro skills. Equipment required.
Darien Ice House sponsors the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team practice. The Skyliners is a competitive synchronized skating club with a mission to prepare skaters to compete at the highest level of synchronized skating locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. In order to accomplish this goal, Skyliners skaters train both on and off the ice from the beginning stages up through elite levels. Representing one of the top skating clubs in the country, the Skyliners split practices between Chelsea Piers of Stamford and The Darien Ice House. Since 2001 they have numerous awards, championships and medals. Skyliners has had tremendous individual skating and group accomplishments and developed some of the top Figure Skaters in the world.
